More Odds and Ends

Meet Your Congressman

For those who may be interested in meeting their new Congressman, Bill Foster will be at the Jewel/Osco in West Dundee, Saturday, June 21, 2008, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Stop by and say hi.

New Entryway Signs

I hope everyone has had a chance to see the new entryway signs that we have at both ends of RT. 25 and at the south end of Rt. 31. If you haven’t seen them take notice as you drive by those locations. They took quite some time to get installed but they were worth the wait. They look terrific!

Improvement At Raceway Woods

A new foot bridge has been installed at Raceway Woods by the Kane County Forrest Preserve. Take a walk over there and see it. It is a big improvement.

Watch The Board Meeting

Don’t forget that Friday night is the night that the Carpentersville Village board meeting is aired on Ch.17 on Comcast. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. Tune in to see your elected officials in action. There usually is a delay in when the meetings are aired. I believe that tonight’s airing will be the second half of the June 3rd meeting.

Some Help For Motorists

Also it was decided at the last Village board meeting that some major patching work would be done this year on Alameda. This street is widely used and is in very bad condition. It is scheduled to be completely redone in 2010 or perhaps 2009.

Taking A Look At Rt. 25

Next Tuesday, I will be taking a tour of Rt. 25 with State Senator Michael Noland and officials from the Illinois Department Of Transportation (IDOT) to see what can be done to improve this vital corridor.  Sen. Noland has had a real interest in helping to improve this area.  It’s also high on my list of things to do in the coming years. We have applied for a 1.3 million dollar grant from the state of Illinois to improve this area on the east side of the Village. As I hope you are aware, and if not, please be assured that we are looking for additional money from everywhere. It is my goal to get some good things done without having to raise taxes on our home owners.

How about putting the traffic light back at the Taco Bell/Ball Avenue intersection?

The logic of it’s removal years ago escapes me, when you pull out, traffic from the South, which is usually ten to fifteen miles OVER the speed limit does not give much chance to do it safely.

OR, request Besinger allow a road to be built out of the Meadowdale Mall to the North on the West side of Walgreens exiting onto Lake Marian Road. Then after considerable warning, close the entrance to and from Rt 25. Perhaps having a restricted Southbound entrance only.

    Peter Piper–

Thanks for your thoughts. In regards to the light at Ball Avenue and Rt.25 that is a question worth asking. I will inquire about that.

A road coming out of Meadowdale Shopping Center connecting to Lake Marrian Road would not involve the State of Illinois. That would be a discussion with the Besinger’s.

YEAH! That was one of the most civil exchanges I have seen in the year or so of C’ville blogs/comments/etc. A glimmer of hope that we can just roll up our sleeves and get to work on making things better!

Wouldn’t it just make a lot more sense to put up the full board meetings on the web, so we can watch them when we want to, where we want to, and however we wan to? I don’t want to have to listen to several hours of meeting stuff when I know what I want is later in the agenda. With the web you can fast-forward. You can’t do that with the community cable show. Why you’re so resistant to that, Bill, is beyond me.

  5. Peter and Bill,

We would also love to know why that light was pulled down at Ball and 25. IDOT did not contact the Shopping Center when they came to do that work.

I had several attempts to contact the Schaumburg IDOT office to inquire and also to seek their acknowledgment of the potential danger of turning movements from the Shopping center making a northbound turn, and the fact that these folks can not see veh coming from the south.

    We never received a response.

As to the roadway from just north of the Post office to the back of Walgreens.

First we would not willingly give up a rt 25 curb cut.

Secondly when the Walgreens went in, we sought approval for a connection road, as one existed prior to the demolition of the Chicago furniture mart in 1991. However at the time that Walgreens was constructed, 1997, the Village engineering department and administation was extremely difficult to work with and they did not even want Walgreens to have an ingress/egress onto Lake Marion road. They prevented the connection from Meadowdale to Lake Marion road.

We would have installed it had we been given authority.

On a second note; Bill can you inquire with Sen. Nolan about helping the Park District to obtain approval for the park dist to put a sidewalk on the IDOT right of way along the portion of route 68 from rt 25 to the east property line for the Bonnie Dundee golf course.

There are many C’VIlle residents that walk along that portion of the road, and when the road widens to 5 lanes, the pedestrians are forced to walk almost on the road.

The Park district has the ability due to a local developers mistake to have approximately 60,000.00 worth of work done, and we have requested that it be done here, however upon contacting IDOT for approval, they are holding up the project as they want the sidewalk to extend all the way down to Golfview lane, and they want crosswalk automations added to the rt 26 and 68 intersection.

Both of these are quite costly requests, the automations are over 100,000.00 and the sidewalk extention is about 75,000.00.

Our thoughts (Dundee Township Park Board) were that the road is the most dangerous where rt 68 is five lanes wide, and why not get some sidewalk to improve the safety rather than to continue with the current situation.

If Sen. Nolan is able to help, he may contact me, however the Park DIstrict administrative staff is very easy to work with and can be contacted at 847 551-4300, he should ask for Tom Mammoser.

    Thank you
    Frank Scarpelli
Meadowdale Shopping Center & Dundee Township Park District Park Board President.

    Frank,

Thank you for the information it will do me well in our tour today with Sen. Mike Noland. I will point out your concerns while we tour the area. Thanks again This is the type of feedback I’m looking for from our residents and those who own property in the Village.

Wait a minute, you mean to tell me the park district has $60,000 from a builders mistake? I find that very hard to accept as fact, you guy’s have been using this line of nonsense for years, there isn’t a builder out there that makes a $60,000 mistake. I would bet that it happened the other way around. Now why should the park district pay for a sidewalk that is clearly the resposibility of East Dundee and could be payed for by using money from their just formed TIF district and I understand it is in East Dundee’s comp. plan. This is another example of a conflict of interest with Scarpelli. He is the president of the park board and a very influential member of the East Dundee planning and zoning board and also a former East Dundee trustee and he is willing to spend Dundee Township Park District money on something that the Village of East Dundee, using there TIF, should pay for. Say it ain’t so Frank!

  8. Frank Sarpelli said

    Dave,

This has nothing to do with East Dundee or any TIF, this area is not in a TIF district.

Yes the developer made a mistake, they permitted IDOT and Com-ed to utilize property that belonged to the Park District on the north side of Route 72 just west of the new industrial park west of Dundee Middle School.

As to who’s responsibility this sidewalk should be?? THe sidewalk will be going in the Route 68 Right Of Way, and IDOT will own it. East Dundee has no say in the matter.

As to Planning and Zoning, The planning and Zoning commission makes NO!!!! final decisions on any village business.

    Frank,

I think you are wrong, It is at the very edge of East Dundee’s TIF, and it seems logical to use TIF money to pay for it instead of Park District money. As far as ownership, it would legally be the responsibility of East Dundee, just like the sidewalk in the R.O.W. along Route 25 in Carpentersville or the sidewalk in the R.O.W. along Route 72 in West Dundee, IDOT does not own those sidewalks, If they did they would be responsible for the maintenence just like the roadway that they own.

Don’t get me wrong I think sidewalks are needed on both sides of Route 68, I just think you are going about it the wrong way as far as the way you are proposing to pay for it.

As far as your influence in East Dundee’s goverment, Frank you are not fooling anybody, As you know I am in the middle of A major construction project in East Dundee and who do I call when somebody(you) puts up A roadblock? You Frank. And why do you do that? Because you have alot of influence.

Frank, I don’t know why you have A political ax to grind with me I have never done anything to you, you, on the other hand have done A few things to me (you know what Iam talking about),I forgive you for it because I still think your a good guy, your just a little misguided.
